In a computer network, a switch is a device that links other devices together. To allow communication between several networked devices, many data cables are inserted into a switch. By transmitting a network packet just to the one or more devices it is meant for, switches control the flow of data across a network. By using the network address of each networked device connected to the switch, the switch may guide traffic in a way that maximizes network security and effectiveness.
